Richard Dyer 'Star Theory'

To understand the role/relationship between music and the industry we first need to understand the roles of music stars.  The term 'star' refers to the semi-mythology set of meanings constructed around music performers in order to sell to the loyal audience.  So why do some people stay stars and some fade off?   some people may not like the fame, so they choose to fade into the background to avoid the fame they face. there are many common values of music stardom, these are:  youthfulness rebellion  sexual magnetism  an anti-authoritarian attitude originality  creativity/talent  aggression/ anger  a disregard for social values relating to drugs, sex and polite behavior  conspicuous consumption of things like sex and drugs.  What makes a star?  someone who people look up to  someone who people view as iconic  someone who has a lot of money  Dyer has written extensive...

One Page Pitch

Image
Here is our one page pitch Video.   Sir asked us to define our audience more by using the uses and gratification theory. Our video will be aimed at younger people in the age range of 16 - 21. This is because our video is aimed around struggles in a relationship and in this age group people tend to face many troubles when in a relationship. Also 'The Hunna' is a group who are very popular in this age and many people follow them and like their music o they're most likely to watch the video. Linking the uses and gratification theory in means that we think our video will appeal to this age group the most because they may use it for things like personal identity or interaction because if focuses around a sensitive subject like cheating and a lot of people seek comfort after a hurtful breakup or for the pure entertainment because they like the band and follow their music.

The Male Gaze

Laura Mulvey : visual pleasure and narrative cinema. Women are often objectified in music videos and men can be but not as much. we see women being seen in less clothing and more erotic than a man. In some music videos women are wearing little clothing to attract male attention. In the media women arguable are still more objectified than men and always have been, even though now it may be more than it was 50 years ago. This could have the impact on females that may be younger because it can have a mental impact as girls will not feel good enough.                             To gaze at something means you will stare or look at something for a long period of time. The Main features of the male gaze theory:   The representation of women as a sexual fantasy and from a male heterosexual point of view. Scopophilia - The p...

Album Cover Edit

Image
We were asked to do a cover edit of an album of our choice, we chose to do Disciples 'on my mind.' above is the original album cover, quite a plain cover with a light blue making the darker fingerprint stand out. Also the use of the bright colours causes it to stand out a lot when looking. By increasing the contrast on the photo it has given darker edges and a much darker fingerprint. you are able to see many more details on the fingerprint because of the contrast being increased.

Recreation Task

Image
For our group recreation task we decided to copy Meghan Trainor's 'All about that Bass' we had el as the main person because she was the best at lip syncing and we all took it in turns to film different parts. We filmed it on an IPhone 7 plus because we thought it was different rather than a camera.

Band Shots

We practiced some 'Band Shots' and we were given a lot of different styles to practice. Then we decided to put them all together in a video.
