The Male Gaze

Laura Mulvey : visual pleasure and narrative cinema. Women are often objectified in music videos and men can be but not as much. we see women being seen in less clothing and more erotic than a man. In some music videos women are wearing little clothing to attract male attention. In the media women arguable are still more objectified than men and always have been, even though now it may be more than it was 50 years ago. This could have the impact on females that may be younger because it can have a mental impact as girls will not feel good enough.                             To gaze at something means you will stare or look at something for a long period of time. The Main features of the male gaze theory:   The representation of women as a sexual fantasy and from a male heterosexual point of view. Scopophilia - The p...

Album Cover Edit

Image
We were asked to do a cover edit of an album of our choice, we chose to do Disciples 'on my mind.' above is the original album cover, quite a plain cover with a light blue making the darker fingerprint stand out. Also the use of the bright colours causes it to stand out a lot when looking. By increasing the contrast on the photo it has given darker edges and a much darker fingerprint. you are able to see many more details on the fingerprint because of the contrast being increased.

Recreation Task

Image
For our group recreation task we decided to copy Meghan Trainor's 'All about that Bass' we had el as the main person because she was the best at lip syncing and we all took it in turns to film different parts. We filmed it on an IPhone 7 plus because we thought it was different rather than a camera.

Band Shots

Image
We practiced some 'Band Shots' and we were given a lot of different styles to practice. Then we decided to put them all together in a video.

Media Regulations Task

Image
In lesson today we looked at the different media regulations and who is in charge and the difficulties surrounding this. The purpose of regulators is needed so there is some organisation to what's being published, The main regulator of the BBC and ITV is Ofcom they also are responsible for complaints to do with radio stations. The Internet The social networking sites Facebook and Twitter however do not really have a regulator all of it is mainly done by computers and codes, because the companies are that big it wold be difficult to employ enough people to deal with the amount of complaints made. That's why in some cases things can go wrong, Facebook may have a video reported and because it doesn't fit the computer systems regulations so the video may not be removed. The internet however doesn't have any official regulations although most websites have a 'comment' policy or the ability to report a post. This links into the 'We Media' context abo...

Our Group Vlog

Image
After much deliberation we decided to join as one group, I am really excited about working with Holly and Chloe because looking at their previous work they have some good ideas and I think if we combine them all together I'm sure we will work hard to produce a music video.

One page pitch preperation

In lesson today we spoke about our one page pitch and discussed what to do and what not to do, we got some tips: Don't use a well known song because people will have watched the video over and over and know the artist and how the video looks and sounds so it will be difficult not to copy or compare.  Check the location before you film. Talk about people in the group and what they bring. Is the setting and location feasible? Interiors : lighting , think about where you are going to film it, if needing the school hall then may need to book it. timing needed to film. Equipment props : cost of them, where you'll get them. special effects Who will the video appeal to? what sort of audience? specify the audience link to audience theories come up with a typical audience member Show a understanding of what's gone on before? suitable for fans of... artist genre: why is it suitable for the artist/genre?  Expectations of the audience fit with the overall pa...

Lip Sync Video

Image
We were asked to create a lip sync video so we could practice timing, we felt like acting it out was a good idea too so we could get all the embarrassment out in a practice and we could then do better in the real thing.

Taylor Swift Textual Analysis

Image
We were asked to do a textual analysis on Taylor Swifts newest song 'Look what you made me do' the video is very different to what people are used to seeing from her, as originally she started out as a country artist. People often criticize Taylor Swift because they believe she writes songs about her own life experiences for instance many people have the opinion of she writes song about every single relationship she has. An example of this would be "I knew you were trouble" and "blank space" both set of lyrics are written about a past love.  I analysed Taylor Swifts "Look what you made me do" and I presented my finding in a Prezi format.
