Evaluating previous A-level music videos

Image
In today's lesson we looked at some previous music video's that had been created by media students and we acted as the examiner so we gt a mark scheme and had to mark the video's ourselves and then we found out the true level they got. Some were surprising and some weren't, we found that actually a lot of us were a lot more harsh than the examiner would be!     This A2 Music video production was done to the song 'Chandelier' by Sia. The video got near full marks and was graded A*. Watching the video I can see many techniques that we are looking at incorporating into our music video such as at the beginning they use a motorway to get images of the cars moving in the dark, we are also going to use this but just speed it up. Many of the techniques such as the reverse that is used at the falling of the wine glass and the smashing make the video tell the story and it is easy to understand what the producer of this video is trying to get across to us as the audi...

Logo Practice

Image
we had a practice at some logo's for our artist, we tried a range of them to see what suit's the name and her persona best. we produced these on logojoy, by doing many different designs it gives us a range of choice and so we don't feel stuck to going down one path with how we want to present our star. here are our practice logo's.

Risk Assessment for our video

Image
For our video we have had to complete a risk assessment form, this is due to the fact we are filming outdoors in locations such as Meadowhall, Hardwick and on a bridge overlooking a dual carriageway. We have had to point out all the potential risks we could face in the form of tick boxes. We had to outline our risk of at which points in the video we are most at risk and also mention the locations of the risks.

Prop List

Image
We also decided to do a prop list which will help us when it comes to filming so we know what we need. we have delegated specific items to each person so that the responsibility is shared out and we are not just relying on one person. We had a budget and made it quite lenient to what we were willing to put in, we made the budget £25 and managed to spend under that with the end total being £14 which was a bonus for all of us.

Goodwins Theory

Andrew Goodwin came up with a theory about how music videos have relationships with the lyrics and how in some videos the relationship is to make the song mean something and make sense and another way the video and lyrics couldn't match and this may be for another reason.  match I decided to use relevant examples within the Prezi to help connote the true message across to the audience.

Tour Poster

Image
We designed a tour poster to go on our website once its finished to help make the website look more authentic. We chose quite a relaxed and calm shot for the background so the audience's main focus are the tour dates and they stand out the most. By looking at other tour posters we saw that mostly the name of the tour was featured and all the dates along with the names of the arena's. We noticed how the artist or bands name is always the biggest lettering so that it catches the eye of the fans. One interesting point to make is that on the Beatles poster and the bastille poster the name of the show is also a huge feature, but on the Liam Gallagher and the Zara Larsson poster it isn't a main point that is eye catching, this may be the fact that they are both solo singers and the main eye catching feature for them is there name that is what people will recognise them as, as for the big groups they may be recognised by both so they don't have to have just one ey...

Music Video Regulations

last year when we were producing our Thriller openings, we learnt about regulations put in by the BBFC. so I thought I'd look at the regulations for music video's .

One minute muisc video

Image
we got asked to produce a one minute music video, Holly and Chloe filmed the shots and I edited it and put it all together.

30 second music video

Image
We were asked to produce a 30 second music video to get us used to filming and using different camera angles, the practice from this will help us to think about what angles will be best in our actual music video and we will have practiced them so we will find it easier.

Character forms

Image
In our music video we are having quite a few different people, who aren't in our media group, for different shots and roles. So in order to cover ourselves we had to get them to sign forms saying they agreed to the terms and conditions and regulations of what they are entering themselves into. For example they need to know they will be filmed and it will go on YouTube.  Joanne is Holly's mum and she will be contributing to the video by being the driver of the car that we see holly travelling in whilst on her way to a meal.             Cam is the boyfriend of Chloe in the video and the ex-boyfriend of Holly in the video.                            Amy is playing the part of one of Holly's friends when out for a meal.

Our Target Audience

Image
In our group we produced a mind map about the type of audience we picked and why we picked them. We have tried to cover every topic that we think is important to note. By doing this it will constantly remind us when filming who we're aiming the video at and this will help us make sure that we don't go out of that range and confuse our audience.

10 Shot Textual Analysis

We were asked to produce a 10 shot textual analysis of a song of our choice. I chose to do 'The Masterplan' by Oasis as they're one of my favorite bands and the video is very interesting.

Recreating a Album

Image
We have been asked to recreate a album cover using Photoshop and by doing this it has helped us get experience on the software before we use it for real in the preparation of our music video and our CD cover package. The first one was based on one of our group members Holly, and we made the background black and white and holly remain in normal colour, we thought this would make her stand out and let the audience know she is the main vocalist and the focus is on her.    We then compared one to a actual album, in this case we focused on Adele's album which is called 21. We chose this because we thought it looks effective and the fact that '21' is in green compared to the rest of the black and white setting was unique.

Storyboarding

Image
We spent a lot of time on our storyboards and took pride in the fact we needed to get everything down so that we didn't forget the little details, we came up with putting a sun or a moon in the corner of each box because we will be filming at both day and night and it will make it quicker for us to film if we can sort each into the right time of day.

Shot List

In our group we decided to produce a shot list to help us when filming. All the shots are separated into location groups and are colour co-ordinated so that we can make sure we film all the shots in one trip and were not getting confused as to what we have and haven't filmed. The story board will help us to put the shots in order but the shot list is very beneficial for making sure we get everything we need to produce our music video. S hot list Establishing shot - fast motion shot of clouds moving fast across the sky lasting 7 seconds Establishing sh ot - fast motion shot in the dark of fast cars moving on a duel carriage way lasting 7 seconds Mid shot - Holly lip syncing against light pink background for 13 seconds Long shot - Holly walking to the door in heels and a dress Close up - Holly holding the handle of the door and opening it Close up - showing the door opening from the side Long shot - Holly walking through the door (all s...

Character Braimstorm

Image
We decided to do another brainstorming video because the last one we did really helped us with our plot as we got so many ideas and were able to narrow them down easily and wasn't struggling for ideas. Also we thought if we said what we thought the characters should look like and how we want them to be portrayed it would be easier for them to be in character and we would be quicker filming.

History of music video's

Image
Music videos have developed much over time and there have been many dramatic changes in the presentation of videos and the people that are in them whether that be a woman or a man. Also costume and makeup and hair styles have changed along the way. Here is a video showing the songs that spent the longest time at Number 1 through the time span of 1920's -2009. There is a huge difference in the video's even in the past 10 or 20 years. This is due to society developing so quickly and a few years ago people wouldn't have dreamt of posting such controversial music videos like we see today. A good example of a turning point in the music would be Madonna's 'Like a prayer'. When this video was released there were many arguments and disagreements with certain aspects of the video. One of these was that in the video Madonna is seen in a church knelt before a statue which is assumed to be Jesus, this statue of Jesus is of a black ethnicity and many people argued thi...
